Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted a major raid on Saturday at the flat of businessman Manish Jhunjhunwala in a high-rise building in Ballygunge Place, Kolkata. The central agency is investigating alleged financial irregularities linked to land and real estate projects reportedly worth several hundred crore rupees. Central forces were deployed at all entry and exit points of the building to assist the ongoing operation.
According to ED sources, Jhunjhunwala is alleged to have played an active role in diverting funds collected from multiple investors under the pretext of land development. Investigators are currently examining financial documents and tracing transactions to identify any accomplices. This raid follows several complaints regarding incomplete or unexecuted projects, raising suspicions of large-scale fund misappropriation.
In addition to the Ballygunge operation, ED teams also conducted searches at Om Tower on Chowringhee Road near Park Street and at 7–8 other locations in and around Kolkata. Preliminary findings indicate that the funds collected for various projects may have been diverted for personal gain, according to ED officials. The agency is working to uncover the full extent of the alleged corruption network.
The raids come amid heightened political activity in the state ahead of upcoming elections, reflecting the central agency’s renewed focus on financial irregularities involving prominent businessmen. ED sources emphasized that the operations are ongoing and further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
